April Fools

Startrek.com didn’t disappoint this year with a couple of April Fools.

The Rosetta Stone – Learn to Speak Klingon course is a complete Klingon software package that will enable you to express your thoughts safely and effectively in Klingon and master the conversational skills required to conduct negotiations, request medical assistance, and partake in the rich Klingon culture. Rosetta Stone is surely the perfect company to create such a product, as it is the world’s most popular and most advanced program for learning a new language. Having helped millions of learners from around the world, Rosetta Stone is uniquely situated to be able to broaden the reach of the Klingon language so that it can become truly universal.

Ask any Star Trek fan what Trek product they wish actually existed and our guess is that 9 out of 10 people would reply: a U.S.S. Enterprise. Well, that day has come, courtesy of ThinkGeek.com, which has just introduced the Star Trek U.S.S. Enterprise Flying Disc, perfect for creating – or recreating – your favorite Star Trek adventures in your backyard or at the local park or beach.

Each Star Trek U.S.S. Enterprise Flying Disc features a saucer section made of space-age plastic. The saucer section is the part you throw, just as you would a regular flying disc. However, the Star Trek U.S.S. Enterprise Flying Disc also has the rest of the ship attached; it’s made of foam so as to not inhibit the ship’s airworthiness. The saucer section spins freely, and the secondary hull actually stabilizes and flies behind it. The result? A U.S.S. Enterprise you can easily throw and catch.

I am one of the news editors for trekmate. I have been a trekkie since BBC2 first showed TNG in the UK. More recently I have been trying to convert my wife into a trekkie with mixed success.
