Pluto moon could be named after Star Trek planet

A campaign to name one of Pluto’s moons ‘Vulcan’ has been gaining momentum after being launched by a former Star Trek actor.

William Shatner was the original Captain T Kirk and is pushing for the moon to be named after the planet which Spock came from.

Vulcan is among 21 names in the running in an online poll organised by the California-based SETI Institute, whose team of astronomers discovered the moons.

Shatner has been using his Twitter account to try to garner support.

On Wednesday, the star tweeted:
