Amnesty International
We have chose to support Amnesty International because they are an organisation that have dedicated themselves to fight to protect human rights, freedom and justice all over the world
As Star Trek fans we understand the importance of these rights and we all want to live in a world where freedom and justice are universal for all. So I’m sure that you will agree this is a fight that we can all get behind.
The Watford General Hospital Special Care Baby Unit (SCBU)
We chose to support the SCBU as I (Wayne) owe them a debt that I can never repay. Let me give you a brief overview of how they became a group very close to my heart.
By the 19th of April 2011 my wife had already spent 3 days and nights in hospital being induced as our baby had decided it didn’t want to leave its safe and warm surroundings. It was our first child, Leanne was 2 weeks over due and had been in slow labour for a week and a half.
To cut a long story short, at 9:30pm as Leanne was hooked up to every monitor available whilst she was going through the birthing process when the unimaginable happened. I watched the monitor displaying our babies heart beat rapidly slow down and we was suddenly being whisked into surgery.
By the time we had reached the surgery room, their was no heartbeat to be found. I was flung out of the room and Leanne was quickly knocked out.
This was every parents nightmare.
It took 4 minutes to resusitate our baby girl and she ended up spending a week in the SCBU, luckily we now have a perfectly healthy and unscathed daughter. Though without the fast response and amazing care that the SCBU staff had provided from the first moment she crashed to the moment we left, we would not be as lucky as we are today.
Like alot of the NHS the Watford General Hospitals Special Care Baby Unit is underfunded but despite this they are providing the highest level of care I have ever seen. Every member of their staff takes such pride and care with everything that they do, they made our experience that much more bearable and I know they do the same for thousands of other parents every day of the year. Whether it is children who come into the world in a similar way to our daughter or if the child is born premature or has some form of disability or health condition. So that is why we would like to support them in any way possible.
So please help us to support these very worthy charities.
